At 5604 Manor we are constantly working on our dream of a progressive and sustainable community center where people come together to create a more just and sustainable world.

With lots of donated labor from Workers Defense Project members, we have already made great improvements at 5604 Manor — installing a more efficient air conditioning unit, creating attractive signs and billboards, converting the former commercial kitchen into a beautiful childcare room. We still have other upcoming projects that require donor support:

      Outdoor Performance Space $10,000

Build the outdoor stage with sound equipment for local artists and performers.

Community Gardens and Rainwater Barrel Systems $11,000

Provide tools, labor, and materials, to create 12 large (10ft x 5ft) garden plots, 2,500 gallon rainwater barrels, and composting system.

      Solar Panels $40,000

With a 4,000 square foot rough we an ensure a more sustainable center with enough green energy to pay for 5604 Manor’s utilities.

      Kitchen Renovation $5,000

Support good nutrition and healthy lifestyles by expanding the kitchen’s food preparation space and installing recycling and composting systems

      Bilingual Library $4,500

Create an inviting learning environment with books and DVDs in Spanish and English, furniture, and reading spaces.

      Outdoor Recreation Space $10,000

Bring families together with a soccer field and basketball court for children and adults.

      Murals and Inspiring Artwork $5,000

Inspire interest in the arts through large murals, smaller artwork, and interactive art for kids.

      Green Parking Expansion $10,000

Install bike racks to promote sustainable and healthy transportation. Expand the parking lot with sustainable wood mulch and plant trees to provide cars with shade cover to reduce our carbon footprint.

      Family Learning Center $100,000

Foster learning and growth by helping families become computer literate and providing tutoring for immigrant youth, and expand existing ESL and leadership classes.  Needs include furniture, computer equipment, books, educational games, ESL materials, and a new accessible bathroom.

      Invest in 5604 Manor $195,000

Help pay off the short-term mortgage on the building, which will enable more funds to be invested in programming and help more low-income families.
